When starting this brand photography business, I knew I wanted to give my audience helpful tips and resources related to marketing online. And since Instagram is such a huge component of online marketing, I thought it would be helpful to get a social media expert here to talk about creating Instagram content to better engage your audience and get customers!
First, let me introduce Kalee Murrin, owner of Sonder Social, who offers social media management to clients to help them leverage the power of social media to attract clients and make more money . She is local to the NJ area and has been a great resource not only to me but to many business owners.
So here are a few amazing tips from Kalee. And if anyone is interested in learning more about hiring a social media manager, do not hesitate to get in touch with her here on her Instagram page!
If you’re an entrepreneur, you’ve probably heard that having a solid Instagram presence
is key in landing new eyes on your offer and growing your business. But how do you create
valuable content that presents you as an authority in your industry and draws people to
working with you?
Here are my top tips for creating content that connects with your ideal audience and converts
them into buyers!
1. Consistency is Key
Showing up on Instagram consistently is half the battle. If you’re only posting a couple times a month (or not at all), your audience is likely to lose interest in your offer, forget you exist, or even unfollow you. Plus, the Instagram algorithm favors accounts that are active and utilize all platform features on a regular basis.
Aim to post at least 3-5x per week; if you find yourself too busy or forgetting to post that often, consider creating an editorial calendar, batching content on a weekly or monthly basis, and auto-posting using a platform like Planoly or Later!
2. Aim to Provide Value
To create content that is valuable to your ideal customer, you’ll first need a thorough understanding of who your ideal customer is. If you haven’t already, create an ideal customer profile that not only outlines their demographic information, but also identifies their needs & pain points (and how you can address them!).
With that in mind, aim to communicate to your ideal customer just how YOUR OFFER can help them solve their problem(s) with almost every piece of content that you post. Remember: try not to sound “sales-y”; write or speak in a natural tone, as if you’re speaking to a friend, and always end with a strong call-to-action.
3. Create a Cohesive Visual Story
When someone lands on your Instagram profile, you have about 3 seconds to make a great impression, so it’s imperative that your account and the content on it is cohesive and aesthetically pleasing.
You should only post professional photos that show you & your business in the best light (no cell phone pics!), and appealing graphics that utilize the same color scheme and fonts consistently.
Brand photos and brand design should be two of the earliest investments you make in your business, as this ensures that you’ll be perceived as legitimate & professional in the digital space.
4. Show Up Authentically
Don’t be afraid to be YOU. It can be daunting at first, but get comfortable with showing up on Instagram Stories, Reels and even IG Live to talk about your offer and share details about your everyday life.
People buy from people that they know, like and trust, so the more you show up authentically, the more your audience will feel like they’re getting to know the face behind your business over time.
5. Consider Outsourcing
If you constantly find yourself unsure of what to post or too busy to spend time creating content & engaging with your audience each week, a social media manager can help you take that weight off your shoulders.
They’ll work with you to create a social media strategy that embodies your business goals & values, find your ideal customer and create content that speaks directly to them, and stay up on all the latest social media tricks & trends, so that you can worry about everything else in your business!
