Your website is where all your hard work and content creation should come together. It’s great to have all your social media platforms popping, but your clients need somewhere to come back to in order to push forward with any interest they have in the services you provide. It needs to be fast, clear and inviting so that potential clients know right away what it is you do, who you are and a call to action. There are so many different ways to use your branding photos, but in this blog I’m going to go through my top 5 tips on how to use your photos specifically on your website.
If your current website is still using stock images and not your own original Commercial Photography, now is the time to refresh your website. You can read my blog Why You Should Book a Brand Photoshoot for Your Business here.
Here are some of my favorite ways to use my branding photos on my website:
1 – Refresh your website homepage
Choosing a large clear photo for your homepage is definitely the first main point I would focus on. Showcasing yourself on your homepage can instantly help your clients feel connected and it makes you relatable. The intention of your homepage should be to instantly portray who you are and what you do. For me, my whole business is built on business branding photography, but also my potential clients like to know who the person behind the camera is. So instantly on my home page people know that I am a headshot and brand photographer and showcases me as the person behind the camera. You could change this page regularly, so your clients will know it’s up-to-date.
2 – Demonstrate your product or service
This is the most obvious tip, but also the most important. You must have clear, unique, good quality photos of the product or service you provide. Poorly lit, or low quality photos just won’t do. You could have the most amazing product or service, but you will be judged on the quality of these photos. If they don’t convey quality, then straight away your first impression to your potential clients is that your service or product also is not of quality.
3 – Create new eye-catching blog content
Your blog should be the place for your best story-telling: a solid mixture of words and text. An image can portray 1000 words in a much shorter time period, so you want to clearly demonstrate who you are with the images you choose. Maybe you’ve decided to add a blog to your website, and offer free advice relevant to your business to your clients. This is the perfect place to show off who you are and what you do with your new Commercial Photography. People are a lot more likely to remember your website with images that convey emotion and tell a story.
4 – Behind the scenes
People really love to buy into the whole concept of a brand. Showing behind the scene photos can show your authenticity, your USP (unique selling point) or make them feel like a part of the process. I think whether you are a creative, offer a service or a product, including these kinds of photos on your website can have a really strong impact. If you create products, it can be really effective to demonstrate here whether your product was handmade, ethically sourced, ethically made, or whether you have a unique process. Equally if you offer a service, behind the scenes photos can really help convey what you do and what someone would be paying for, which can be hard to do in just words.
5 – Who you are
The most obvious place for an image of yourself, would be a clear fresh headshot on your about page. You want this to be clearly of you, looking into the camera and potentially also showcasing what you do. However, the service you provide is as much about someone buying into you as a person, as it is about how good the service is. The more familiar we can become on our website, the more comfortable clients will be in feeling connected to you and likely to get in contact. We, as humans, like familiarity, so as unconnected you might think it is to have your website with multiple images of yourself, actually it might be the deciding factor between someone choosing your service or someone else’s. So I suggest not only having your photo on your about page, but also finding ways to include 4-5 images of yourself on your website on different pages in order to portray a trustworthy service.
Having a website that looks good and really resonates with who you are and what your brand represents, the results will be reflected in the business you generate from it.
