The About Me page – the one of the big to-do’s for your website, am I right? It might not even seem that important, but still you wanna get it right and have no idea how.
Don’t worry, I’ve got some tips for you.
First things first. Why should you even have an About Me page?
You want to take the opportunity to present yourself to your ideal clients when they visit your website. They are obviously there because they are interested in what you are offering. The About Me page is your chance to prove that you are the right person to help them with their needs.
Therefore, you need to let them know that;
1. You have the knowledge and skill to solve their problems
2. You are trustworthy and relatable
Now, how the heck do you do that? (Hint: It’s not as hard as you think!)
Think about it as if you’re meeting someone for the first time. What would you say when you present yourself? What wouldn’t you say? (Remember, this is more of a first business meeting rather than a first meeting with a new friend.)
Tell them:
Let’s break that down…
The opening line, or in website language, the headline, should be something that draws them in. It could definitely be something that speaks to your ideal client’s pain points. Example: ”Do you constantly struggle with ________? I can help with ________.”
The story about your why (and how) should not be the whole story (that would be too long), just the beginning. And here you can also include your services and who you serve. Think about your ideal client and who you love working with the most, that way you will attract exactly those people.
What makes you different? Do you use a specific technique that no one else does? Do you have experience of the same struggles as your clients and now have the solution? Whatever it is, make it clear that you are the right person to help them.
Some more tips
Write your About Me page in first person (using ”I” and ”me”) to connect to your visitors. You don’t want it to be stiff and fancy, you want it to be ”you”. Sprinkle in some of your personality, without getting too personal.
For example: mention a couple of things you like to do on your spare time, but don’t get into details. Just enough to make them feel like they get to know you and your vibe a little bit so they feel like they connect with you. You don’t want them to leave your page thinking you are a complete stranger (even though you are).
As with everything on your website, try to make it simple (both design and text wise) and not too long. Also, have your ideal client in mind the whole time while writing it. Think about it as a sales page!
…And don’t forget the photos!
Since I’m a photographer, you didn’t think I’d forget to mention how important a good photo is for your About Me page, did you? End with a CTA
Another thing that is great to include on your About Me page is a clear call to action at the end. What do you want your ideal client to go from here? Book a free call? Sign up for your freebie? Add a contact form, sign up button or link.
