What you should post on IG
I love Instagram: it’s an amazing place to get inspired, be creative, as well as being the perfect place to connect with potential clients. However, it can be overwhelming to be bombarded with so many beautiful and well crafted images and not know what to start posting. We really need to be selective and clever with what we decide to post if we want to promote our business or service, but there’s no reason to get too stressed about it. Working with a Business Photographer to create content for your Instagram or website can help. But there are also some simple ways to create some quality Gram-worthy content.
Here’s some simple ideas to get you started:
1 – Say hello!
Instagram is the perfect place to be connected with your clients, but it’s also so important for them to know who you are and the face behind the business. So if you haven’t posted any photos of yourself or it’s been a while, now would be the perfect time to introduce yourself to your audience. You could make it personal and post about your story, a favorite hobby or how you started your business. You could also show how you work behind the scenes, your team (if you employ others) or how your business day goes. The same way it’s important to show who you are on your website, it’s the same for your Instagram. I really believe that any new follower on your page should be able to instantly tell who runs the business.
2 – Share what you do
This is quite easy for any creative: share your illustrations, photography, a website you created. If it’s a product, then good quality photos taken with a Business Photographer are really key. It’s not good enough to use poorly lit, bad quality snapshots, you want to make sure you’re sharing quality images that convey quality products or services. You could also show something you’ve been working on, progress photos, etc. If what you do is more of an in-person service, think about sharing a behind the scenes photo of you at work or with a client on a job.
3 – Share knowledge
This is the perfect place to share your top tips, tricks and magic! By sharing free knowledge and information in the form of education is the perfect way to portray yourself not only as an expert in your field, but also to gain trust with your audience. These kinds of posts are also more likely to be saved for later viewing and so more likely to build traction for your Instagram. It’s the perfect opportunity to demonstrate what you know and how you work. This could be in the form of a live video, IGTV, reel, photo or video. Perhaps you could do a live every Thursday with #ThursdayQuestions where you invite your audience to ask you questions in the week for you to answer.
4 – Rotate these themes
If you’re stuck on what order to post things on Instagram, I find it’s best to come up with three themes relevant to my business that I can pick and choose to rotate between. This also looks a lot nicer on the grid, than just photos of the same thing repeatedly next to each other. So decide which categories to put your branded content into:
– Hello! (Introducing yourself, or your staff, behind the scenes)
– Share what you do (Your product or service)
– Share knowledge (tips, tricks and magic)
Rotate between these, choosing a variety of close-ups, long shots and even reel videos to keep your page interesting!
Getting savvy on the gram doesn’t need to take much work once you get in the rhythm. If you are looking to work with a Business Photographer to create content for your Instagram or website, I would absolutely love to work with you so send me a message here!
